Community Open Day 2025
Saturday, November 1st, 9am — 4pm
Te Whenua Ora invites you to join us on our Open Day on Saturday 1st November 2025!
Te Whenua Ora (formerly High Bare Peak farm) will be holding another day of free guided walks on Saturday 1st November 2025. We invite you to register to access spectacular views and to learn more about our plans for regenerating the land.
Te Whenua Ora is a working farm and does not have general public access, so please take advantage of this day to get a different perspective of your landscape.
We will be hosting a number of free guided walks around the property. These will start from Little River Inn or nearby locations. All access on the day will be via these walking groups — sorry, no independent exploration.
Guided walks
Much of Te Whenua Ora is steep hillside with long grass and rocks in places, so please bring good footwear and consider a walking pole as well. Sun protection and a water bottle are advisable, but also bring warm, windproof clothing and wet weather gear. The higher parts of the property require up to 750 m of ascent to reach. There are less strenuous options which have much to offer, but all hill tracks require a level of good mobility and fitness and are not suitable for small children, wheelchair users or buggies.
Options include:
- The Terrace (3 hr) Wind your way up the hillside on a farm track through our QE2-covenanted landscape for lake views (~300 m ascent). On the return journey there is an option to walk the Bush Track.
- Caton’s Stream Loop (4 hr) Walk through regenerating bush and grassland with views of the valley (~300 m ascent).
- High Bare Peak (6-7 hr) Steep ascent to High Bare Peak with panoramic views over Kaitorete spit, Mt Herbert and the Alps. (~750 m ascent). High level of fitness required.

Details of parking for the event will be provided when your place on a walk is confirmed.

Additional notes
